The simple property matter of La Mata.

Mention Torrevieja in conversation and many people will nod knowingly, being familiar with the name if not the actual place.

Repeat that conversation, adding La Mata and you may experience a different reaction.

La Mata is an area we know well though at Alicante Real Estate, being based here, but we will assume you, as a reader, want to know more about this town, the area and its property prices.

Let’s start with some facts.

La Mata is very accessible, being only 36 km from Alicante airport and just a 5 minute drive from its better known neighbour, Torrevieja. It basks in high average daily temperatures and is a very dry area, with rainfall on only 65 days of a typical year.

It has a beautiful unspoilt coastline, a natural lake and salt lake, a nature reserve, buildings of historic interest, plenty of cycling and walking opportunities and a traditional Spanish town centre with a market every Wednesday morning.

89,000 people live in Torrevieja and in the first quarter of 2018 there were 11,000 property transactions, an indication of robust market activity.

Property prices remain affordable but are climbing.

Just ten years ago, this corner of Alicante was one of the most affordable parts of Europe, but now prices are incrementally rising annually.

This year, 2018, is expected to see property prices increase by 6.1% in La Mata alone.

That’s strong price growth for an area with so much to offer.

Visitors who come here for the first time are often struck by the absence of high rise buildings, which gives La Mata a more Spanish identity and, arguably, a stronger sense of community.

So what about property prices in La Mata?

Like anywhere, you can spend as much or as little as you like.

A modest studio apartment can be purchased for around €40,000 or a new build villa brimming with technology can cost in excess of €3,000,000. There is that wide range of prices and property types to suit investors, second home and local buyers.

You can of course choose from the 15 new builds we are currently marketing, with a wider range of resale homes.

What does Rainer Schmitz, of Alicante Real Estate, have to say about La Mata?

“La Mata is an incredibly popular dormitory suburb of its bigger neighbour, and it’s a town we wholeheartedly recommend. The beach is huge and is popular with holidaymakers and locals. There’s an extensive wooden walkway and bars and restaurants are peppered along the front.

“Demand for property in La Mata is always high and we are delighted to be in a central location here for all your property selling and buying questions.”
